TEAM NOTES Fever would like to congratulate and thank everyone on the team and on the sidelines/behind the scenes who helped make the fall season a success. Fall is a time of transition and learning, so it is doubly important that everything goes well--and it sure did! This year's team is looking bigger and better than ever! But don't forget that we are now in the winter season, which is one of the most important phases of our year. Winter is when we really start to click and work on our strategy in tournaments, because we are preparing for the College Series in the Spring. Because of that, every player has a responsibility to make sure they attend practice and work harder than ever. Additionally, every player has a few other responsibilities to help her grow as an individual who can bring something unique to the field:
- Prepare for practice. The captains and coaches
recently sent out a list of plays we should be working on. It is your
responsibility to know them by heart so that in game-time you will
understand calls made on the field. This will help toward our cohesion
and efficiency as a team. Also, pay attention to the videos and links
coaches send out before practices--they will help you perform the drills
the right way, so that they actually benefit you, and also help you to
refine your technique and figure out mistakes you made when you review
them after practice.
- Prepare outside of practice. Workout outside of practice. This is important! Make sure you are working on building muscle and working on explosiveness and speed as well as agility; go to track workouts and schedule your own. The time you put in outside of practice adds up and will show on the field. Every team we play against practices together--it's the extra minutes we put in that will truly set us apart from the competition.
- Keep throwing. Throvaling is some of the most important work we do outside of practice, it keeps a disc under your fingers and helps build confidence so that in the game situation you will be able to get off that tough throw. Bring a disc everywhere, make an effort to attend when other teammates say they will be throwing, and even just toss a disc up to yourself in your dorm--every minute of contact time helps.
- Still a requirement: have fun. Love the sport: hang out with your teammates (this helps team cooperation and spirit), learn the cheers, make up some of your own, watch Ultimate videos online, try new tricks...all of it will help you gain a rewarding and beneficial experience with Fever.
COMING SOON! A special section on appreciation and involvement of our Fever Alumni.
